FWIW, I always imagined a content-type field to trigger this sort of thing (my original use case was Markdown). That just strikes me as more appropriate in the universal context (i.e. content reuse outside of TiddlyWiki). IIRC, at some point, there were discussions about the TiddlyWiki core providing basic support for varying content types. Not sure if that's still on the agenda. As usual, there are caveats to using fields, namely the need for UI elements or other mechanisms - but in this case, that should be easy.
