There’s also the blockquote markup:  “>” for single lines, and “<<<“ for block 
mode. The single line format is treated as a list format:

>* I’m a nested bullet point
* I’m a top level bullet point
>> I’m double quoted
>># And I’m numbered
>># Like this

The default styling applies a vertical bar to the left of blockquotes, but you 
can remove that with some CSS:

blockquote {
    border-left: none;
    margin-left: 25px;
    padding-left: 10px;
}

You can also apply a class to any of the list formats:

>.my-class This is a blockquote with a class applied to its nested paragraph
*.another-class This is a list item with a class applied to its LI tag
