@Mat I am not familiar enough with your code to be able to offer an opinion.
Sometimes these issues are due to transcluding like {{template}} instead of
{{||template}} or {{mytiddler||template}}
In the meantime try using this instead of currentTiddler:
{{{[<storyTiddler>get[draft.of]]}}}
