Actually, there is no such thing. The remote desktop feature built into OS
X is not really VNC/RFB compatible. Sometimes it happens to work;
sometimes various client side workarounds are necessary, but AFAIK, Apple
has never claimed VNC/RFB compatibility.
When it comes to the keyboard problem, I believe that they are using the
keysyms as keycodes: If the user wants the @ symbol, and uses a Swedish
keyboard, they are sending XK_Mode_Switch + XK_2 (or similar), rather than
XK_at. This approach is not at all compatible with the VNC/RFB
specification.
