Hello all, it's good time to check status of next major version of TigerVNC, 1.1.
I quickly checked SVN log and it seems following features are already commited in trunk (and aren't present in TigerVNC 1.0): 1. ASM-accelerated JPEG on AMD64/EMT64 platforms 2. everything is compilable via GNU build chain 3. X.Org 1.7 and 1.8 support (with XKB extension support) 4. Xvnc now supports "-interface" parameter 5. more platform-independent speed improvements in libjpeg 6. bunch of other fixes and minor improvements Now it's time to decide what we want in 1.1 release, other things will be deferred to 1.2 There are multiple requested features (and bugs) in out tracker, in my opinion those should be addressed in 1.1 release: 1. "Please develop some documentation" (ID 2872352) - such feature is always painful but we should extend our doc a little 2. Finally get Java applet working - Java applet is not compilable on new Linux-based systems. Alan Coopersmith has already posted patches but noone has time to look onto them: http://www.mail-archive.com/tigervnc-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg00451.html Those major features are requested but AFAIK noone has time to work on them. Let's decide if we want them in 1.1 or not. 1. Encryption support - we can port gnutls-based patches proposed by Martin Koegler 2. Full IPv6 support In my opinion we should try to include encryption support (https://www.auto.tuwien.ac.at/~mkoegler/index.php/tlsvnc) because many people would like to have it there. I'm going to start on this task. IPv6 support can be deferred to 1.2 because I don't want wait for 1.1 forever. More features are requested in our tracker but they are not high priority so they can be deferred to 1.2 as well. After we get "encryption" and "java applet" features in we can release the first alpha - 1.0.90. Do you have other proposals and recommendations what should be included to 1.1, please? Your comments are welcomed.
