I can't think of a reason why it should be needed, but then I don't know why or by whom it has been inserted. There are a few things in the client that could use some tweaking. I have minimized the necessary changes to the client with the server switch however, to prevent unintended side-effects. Once things are up and running again, there are things like removing the sleep, doing away with the "token" thing on upload (we return a Go/NoGo value and should trust clients to honor that) and more.
