That's a good point. In addition, the 53131A/53132A output the full resolution of the measurement over GPIB / RS232 regardless of the number of digits on front display. And, if you enable statistics (effectively extending the gate time), you get even more digits. Here, for example, is an excerpt from a set of 60 10-second readings made by a 53132A.
