Nanostructured materials have been used to reduce thermal conduction (via phonon scattering) whilst retaining high electrical conduction (minimal electron scattering). There are no known theoretical limits to the figure of merit attainable. However dont expect nanostructured Peltier devices to be readily available for some time.
