Most likely, the inner oven has burned up in a flame of glory,
and the outer oven is doing all the work at keeping the xtal close
to the right temperature.  I would say you now have a single oven
oscillator.

the smell. Funny part is that it still works fine. Why did it wait 4 months
to start smelling? I am going to put everything back together and just see
