Hi Jean-Louis, I grew up in Borås. ;-) Actually I spent quite some time less than 5km away from SP - where I guess you had your business. There is a "hole" in a skyplot where we never see GPS birds, but it is somewhat compensated with SVs rising quite a bit over the north pole. Less high elevation satellites but instead more low/medium elevation satellites to the north, than in France.
It is not that uncommon that there are more satellites available than my 12 channel all-in-view receivers can track... ;-) One weak spot is the rather low elevation of GEOs, which will give frequent loss of EGNOS (SBAS) when driving a car in anything but the flattest terrain. On the other hand the current performance level of basic GPS is plenty enough for car navigation. -- Björn > Sorry for late reply, I was away from home. > I spoke of high latitude problem mostly from book knowledge (GPS system > specifications), et had in maind the navigation application, where you > need > at least 3 (2D+time fix) or better 4 (3D+time fix) birds. > Otherwise, my higher latitude experience was around Borås, Sweden, and > even > if I had the feeling to get rather less bird than in South of France, my > Garmin (iQue3600) was still very useable up there. > Have a nice day, > Jean-Louis > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <[email protected]> > To: "Discussion of precise time and frequency measurement" > <[email protected]> > Sent: Friday, April 16, 2010 9:21 AM > Subject: Re: [time-nuts] GPS receiver stuck at South Pole :) > > >>> Congratulations ;-} >>> Most of the time, it's rather difficult to get a GPS working at high >>> latitudes... >> >> Is it high or low latitudes at the South Pole? ;-) >> >> Back to your GPS experiences... at what latitudes have you had problems? >> What kind of application/type of receivers? >> >> -- >> >> Björn >> >> >> _______________________________________________ >> time-nuts mailing list -- [email protected] >> To unsubscribe, go to >> https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts >> and follow the instructions there. > > > _______________________________________________ > time-nuts mailing list -- [email protected] > To unsubscribe, go to > https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts > and follow the instructions there. > _______________________________________________ time-nuts mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe, go to https://www.febo.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/time-nuts and follow the instructions there.
