Actually, there are many stars that can be seen with a telescope (don't
point it at the sun!) during the day *IF* you know precisely where to look.
The sky may be blue and bright... but it's still full of stars.

astronomers are pretty good at this problem. Can you go up some night
ahead
of time and survey a line between a pair of (semi-)permanent markers?
Neither of those ideas work if there is too much cloud cover.
