Using a OXCO allows the instrument to be moved around to various locations. The GPSDO requires the instrument to be tethered to a roof mounted antenna. There is also the matter a "trust". I would not trust the accuracy of a $100 GPSDO bought on eBay unless I had some means of monitoring it.
