Most likely, that just means that your counter is set to Talk Only mode. It won't respond to commands like *IDN? in that mode... but on the other hand, you *have* to use talk-only mode with TimeLab if you don't have a counter model that it knows how to address like the 5370B. > TI responds the same way, frequency works as well what ever mode I put > the > 776 in I get that back in the GPIB window along with the correct numerical > response. It's possible that it's failing to parse the exact data format coming back from the counter.
