Hal, Don, I too have tried all the PC-based (serial/parallel port) solutions. As we discussed at lot with the TEC thread, they work pretty well. But for general use, or stand-alone operation, what I use for dirt cheap non-nanosecond timing is a TBolt-10MHz-driven isochronous microcontroller.
