Yes for 12-hour display but here in Europe we usually have 24-hour
displays. Of course analog clocks are always 12-hour.

Since I am in Europe I described a 24 hour display, that why both 0, 1 and 2 on the first digit was needed. Of these the 0 requires 12 guys, 1 requires 8 guys and 2 require 11 guys, so there is no savement in removing 2 from the first digit.

A further reducement of additional guys would be 1 each for the third and fifth digit, since 8 never needs to be represented. Still allowing full 24-hour representation including leap seconds (i.e. 24:59:60).

I found this one rather amusing. Click on the clock anywhere to change
from
analogue to digital.

When switching you find one guy walking on and off the field. However,
that the analogue clock take 93 guys is obvious, but I fail to see that 94
guys is needed for the digital clock, since the maxium guys used for a
digit is 13 and not 15, and the first digit can only have the numbers 0, 1
and 2 so only 12 guys would be needed there. Hence, instead of one guy
coming in we could send 13 guys of to drink beer when switching to digital
display. Hence, digital is more effective.

Cheers.
