Neither an electrical field, nor a magnetic field will go anywhere by themselves. Maxwell discovered that an electromagnetic wave exists when the changing magnetic field causes a changing electric field (and vice versa) and a wave cannot exist unless it is moving. Hertz proved the existence of radio waves and the unit of frequency was named after him: I think is a great tribute.
