It's not a bug.

Essentially the current is assumed to flow in the direction of the
segment, which is not the case on a boom. It's that assumption that
worries me in using it for things like a helix, or most things to be
honest. I'm sure it can do a lot more than I trust it to do, but I'm
never confident the model will be accurate.

MMANA-GAL has quite a nice front end. It is one hell of a lot easier
to use than HFSS, but I trust HFSS more.
