They make good thermometers. Holdover will be crappy if you can't measure temperature or don't have an environment with a stable temperature. But it sounds like a fun project. What's the cheapest VCXO at 10 MHz? Plan B would be to use the Arduino xtal and generate a PPS. -- These are my opinions.
