One would *hope* that they can do the same process with an aircraft on a known route and get data that makes sense.
My recollection from news reports at the time is that they flew a bunch of "calibration" flights using other similarly-outfitted 777s from the Malaysian Airlines fleet, including flights on and near the inferred track of MH370.
