Also,  ever since the infamous Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" almost all 
live TV in the US is on a mandatory delay of several seconds so that offensive 
(?) images and language can be censored.
I have a DTV-PAL over-the-air DVR box (made by Dish/Channelmaster, long since 
discontinued).  Earlier firmware versions chose one channel's PSIP data to use 
as its time source.  If that channel was broadcasting bogo-time,  all your 
recordings would be off.  And the chance of bogo-time being broadcast is huge.  
 They later changed the time algorithm to use a median of all the channels it 
sees.  This gets the typical error to a few seconds.  
They have a diagnostic screen that shows the PSIP time being broadcast by all 
the stations (actually the first 20 stations).  Several stations have random 
times,  some are off by +/- an hour,  others are GMT.  The stations that are 
close are typically +/- a minute or so.
