Thanks for the info. My plan was to buy one of these cheap LEA-M8T and
design a board around it, knowing that I can later upgrade to a ZED-F9T
just swapping the boards (and probably upgrading the firmware of the
microcontroller that talks to it). Seems feasible? I'll dig the HUAWEI
LEA-M8T pinout and see if it's compatible with the ZED-F9T...

GPS modules, that pretty much started all this “module based” stuff, came
out in a form factor that is roughly that size and shape.
Folks still sell “software compatible” modules to drop in place of the original
Motorola parts. The parts you have dug up will have very limited use on a
board designed for a Motorola part unless the firmware is re-written.

Noticing how similar they are I started to wonder if this is a standatd form
factor i'm not aware of. Does anybody here know anything about it? (Do they
have the same pinout?)
