Unfortunately, it had to be rebooted this morning for unrelated reasons, and is no longer polling abusively (well, I guess the second part isn't really unfortunate). Well, but then just to try it, I added 69.17.7.16 to the ntpd.conf file explicitly (along with the normal us.pool.ntp.org stuff) and... the problem is back. ntpd does not like that server! I have attached a packet catpure. This is a capture taken shortly after starting ntpd.
