I've been following the conversation about Pakistan and the evolved
discussion about satellites, jitter, etc., and I've seen similar threads
in the past.

However, I've not been able to find a discussion about the best time
source, assuming one is in the U.S. I know that jitter is bad, but many
GPS sources, especially USB-connected, are very bad when it comes to
that... and yet supposing that I am ready and willing to spend money on
purchasing a GPS that my computer, ntpd, and the pool will love, I have
no idea what to get. Also I'd rather avoid having to solder and
whatnot -- I know that there are "bare" GPS devices with just a raw wire
hanging out of them, but I am probably not hardcore enough to deal with
it.

Can anyone recommend some devices that are ideal for our purpose and
reasonably straightforward to set up?

Perhaps after some discussion, there can be a section added to the
<www.pool.ntp.org> webpage that, in addition to suggesting volunteering
your PC and syncing to well-established stratum-1 and stratum-2 servers
could also suggest some brands and models of known-working
highly-accurate GPSes (or other time-acquisition devices) for those who
would like to help in a larger capacity? Probably help of this nature
is more beneficial overall than just another stratum-3 server.
