That only works on the old 2.4 kernels.. the 2.6 patches don't have clock support (Ulrich says 2.6 doesn't support microsecond timers)... you can tell because if you do 'kern' in ntpdc it comes up not supported.
FYI I setup an old laptop with Freebsd and the jitter is about 1% of what it was on the Linux machine (and the laptop has a much slower processor) - so the lack of this timer is pretty significant (OTOH the OS keeps hanging... not used it before so I've probably done something wrong during install).
Of course I know that 'true' time is an impossible goal... just playing devils advocate really.
