My guess is that the people leaving are leaving for the total

I've heard a bit of both, but more of the former than the latter.
I changed the toggle to be "below 768" instead of "below 1000".
Is it possible to change the frequency one is in the main pool,
instead of a
toggle? That way we all get a (small or larger) share of the load.
Yes, I want to do that but I have to change how the DNS system
works. Hopefully sometime in the spring or summer if not before.
If too many of us do not get a part of the load of the global pool
at all,
then the load on those that are in the global pool will go up
significantly.
That may make them leave, increasing the load on those who remain...
Right now it's more important for me to keep people in the pool even
if just for their country. When we can distribute the load more
gracefully and without the spikes we can use the smaller servers
better again.
In the short term I'm not too worried about putting more load on the
servers that are remaining. The spikes from being in the global pool
is enough to tilt over a small DSL connection, but the average
bandwidth requirements are very low (unless you get charged for more
than a few GB traffic a month).
BTW do you have statistics on the number of DNS-queries for pool,
[012].pool, and ...<zone>.pool? Are the zones and numbers used much?
The top 30 from the last couple of hours from one of the NS'es look
