Consensus - I doubt it ;) Figures are going to depend on the client and whether it's in start-up or steady state mode... or whether it's a load of PCs on a corporate LAN all behind a single IP... Currently I've enabled kod's in ntpd and set: discard average 30 minimum 1 monitor 1 ...which I'm reading as packets from a single IP address where the average spacing is < 30s or are spaced < 1s apart have 100% chance of being discarded. 'average' and 'minimum' aren't fully defined in the documentation. The I/O packets plot for my server (http://www.ljay.org.uk/gr/graphs_ntp.html) shows ntpd responding to peaks and then tailing off. Bandwidth seems to be slowly tailing off, but maybe that's just because lots of people turned their office PCs off for Christmas..! Going to leave those settings for a while and see how it runs...
