I changed the IP address of a server about 6 months ago and *still* get a lot packets to it. Some clients are dumb - they only get a new address when rebooted and don't care that all their packets are bouncing. If such a client is otherwise stable (from the users point of view) it could be months or even years before the traffic stops.
