While it looks like Dave has been with this project for a while, I am 

a newcomer and have had a similar problem.



I added my UK server to the pool, a linux box running the bundled 

ntp-4.2.0. Every time my server was in the pool DNS ntpd would die without 

logging anything.



Eventually I made a new rpm and upgraded to 4.2.4. This time ntp didn't die, 

but my firewall session table filled up, effectively causing a DOS on my 

network. I pulled my server from the pool while I looked for a solution.



I have now changed the session aging settings on my firewall, in an attempt 

to avoid a repeat of the DOS, reduced my claimed bandwidth to keep out of 

the global zone and, thanks to this thread, implemented the poorly-documented 

kod and limit settings (can these be recommended, or at least suggested on 

the project webpage? They are not mentioned in any of the HOWTOs that 

I used when setting up ntp) 



I will try to re-enter the pool and see what happens.
