I don't expect you can ask poolmembers their LAT/LON and get more 
reliable results
than using those IP location services.  You'll get a good fraction of 
bad numbers,
swapped LAT and LON, wrong signs, etc.
Maybe it would get a little bit better when you let the user click on a 
map, but you will
be surprised seeing how many people cannot indicate their own position 
on a map!
