Subject: [time] What stratum am I?

How does one calculate what stratum their NTP server is? I'm syncing off four other servers, 3 of which are stratum one (according to ntpq) and the fourth is stratum 4. I'm paired (whatever the * is called) with a stratum 1 currently. Is it based on who your paired with, or is it an aggregate of all the servers?

Scott, look for "stratum=N" in the output from:

 ntpq -c rv

Like the other have said, my GPS-synced server says stratum=1, and the client which is synced from that says stratum=2.

Cheers,
David
