The problem is having separate code base that may diverge from one another more 
and more.

Plus one may not get the deserved attention for development and maintenance.

But I understand the need to KISS.

The goal of such a separation would be to keep the size and complexity
of the code of the compiler minimal, if only a specific version of the
standard is desired.
