The only thing I can say is that some apps only guarantee upgrading when there is no major architectural changes. v4.x->v5.0 does involve some architectural changes so it may turn out that it is not possible to perform an upgrade like we are used to doing between 4.x->4.x+1 versions. It may end up being a combination of some automation and some manual work. Or it may turn out to be better to just do a complete reinstall and dump, edit and reload data.
