If they do not fit you right out of the box, they could customized for you by external company. 2: I see no problems in this, you can do it without a problem. Some issues may arise with reports for your specific tax authority. We have similar setup for invoicing our customers on a regular basis, for similar products as yours. We have developed Invoicing / Billing modules right for this purpose. They are freely available from our website or launchpad. You can implement them by yourself or contract us for this job, as well as other tasks too. 3: OpenERP are the right software to choose for this. We have developed specific data structures for our use right the way we see it, and have most of the data in OpenERP. 4: We have such setup for our hosting products. We have regular automatic data importing from our postfix mailservers, and several other systems too. We do import data from hardware (embedded) systems too for example by serial connection (RS232). If service has some XML interface it is even better. We do import data, and make log entries to record historic usage on let's say the first day of the month, then invoice customer on these records automatically. We have even more complicated case, we combine invoicing of our automatic products with the invoicing for multiple manual services. 5: We have automatic backup for our systems. If there is any need for synchronization on a live databases can use OpenERP's module. Keep in mind that there can be setups where you can only read data collected from your suppliers as well as setups where you can control those systems too (I mean hosting services you are selling). 6: Open ERP is pretty scalable. For larger setups there may be a need for database fine tuning, especially when you are doing regular imports/synchronization of data from external sources. We have made this for ourselves. 7: For data import you will have to develop (or order) custom modules, there are no ready solutions for this. 8: Well... You may try to search for some. But the whole idea of the GPL like projects is that common things that can be reused are available for free, but for the custom things you have to contract some company or a freelancer who specializes in the required field.
