You can set the default output power in the Makefile of your application, with a line like this: PFLAGS += -DCC2420_DEF_RFPOWER=7 If you do not define CC2420_DEF_RFPOWER, the default is 3, I think: the lowest TX power setting defined in the datasheet. Look in the CC2420 driver for details (just search for CC2420_DEF_RFPOWER in the TinyOS source tree to find the right spot).
