If you want to not use nesC at all you should look into the other
programming options offered by AVR. If you want to stick bits of
assembly into your code, I don't know, but there's probably some
way to #asm it that will pass nesc's muster and work with gcc.
I'd start with the gcc doc and then see what works with TOS.

Or maybe someone who actually knows something will answer...
