This is almost always a policy of the institution. We currently are
required to hold on to all student papers for one year after the class is
over. It used to be 3 years

Subject: how long to hold?

Some of my students have not picked up their corrected tests and other
papers. They are usually the students who were absent from class the
day they were returnded. Despite my several notifications they are still
in my office taking up valuable space.
Is there a rule as to how long a prof should keep a corrected student's
paper?
I was once told that all students work should be kept on file through
the midterm of the following semester.
Feedback requested.
