I am toying with the idea of giving an OYO exam next term. OYO (ON YOUR OWN). I will assign a chapter that I will not cover and assess how well a student can answer information from the chapter. Personally,I believe that students who are able to digest , comprehend and do well on a consequent exam to have a high degree of functional intellectual autonomy. I have known students who rarely came to class but ace exams- but that was back in the 1960s. Feedback requested.
