I have another request about assessment of the Psych Major. My department is trying to come up with a scheme to do assessment with our majors. The relevant section of the minutes of the last meeting are presented here: "Assessment: Scott led the discussion on methods of assessment. We are very interested in portfolio assessment, but are concerned about managing it. Ideas:
1. have a 1 cr. hr. class for sophomores, one for juniors, one for seniors, in which students assemble their portfolios, write self-assessments (personal interests/strengths at freshman level, competencies at junior & senior level?) 2. assess only seniors' portfolios & use other methods for entry-level and mid-level assessment. 3. interview graduating seniors to ascertain how well they have met competencies, seniors would demonstrate how they have met competencies Questions about assessment: how do other programs manage this? what problems have they had, what solutions have they found? what procedures do they use? can we assess only the portfolios of seniors?" The questions, then, are those in the sentence above. What have those of you who have had to respond to the demands of "value added" or "can you prove that you have taught your students anything" requirements done that has worked, and what hasn't worked. Probably a back channel response would be less cluttering of the list bandwidth, and I would appreciate any input that you may have.
