What is perceived as irrelevant may realistically be relevant.
I never called the student a Jesus freak personally.Btw,the word
was very popular in the 1960s. Contrary to the negative connotation it
has these days, back then a freak was a devotee.Hence you had people
who were into all types of trips,Jesus,Blues,Jazz,Granola,Maharisi and
even today a guy who always wear tyde dyed shirts and listens to the
Grateful Dead. I could be referred to as a Van Morrison freak.
So whats the big deal.
\ I mention Thomas Merton because he was my Novice master at Gethsemani
and you may not know this Merton wrote a book titled the Asian Journal
about his journey to Asia to meet the Dalai LLama, just as George
Harrison and the Beatles went to India to study with the Indian
mystics.A moment of silence fits into my penchant for the Gregorian
chant liturgy of the dead and reflective contemplation.
Its been awhile (not the song by Stain) since I mentioned
Eurocentrism.Gimme a break.
