It is important to remember that these statistics may reflect instances

at homicides involving handguns and other firearms in the year 1999:
165 Canada (handguns alone)
317 England and Wales (total for firearms - not just handguns)
And now, let us look at the U.S.:
Total violent crimes: 1,430, 693 (St. Louis came in 3rd this year!)
Total homicides: 15,533
% due to handguns - 51.3 (approximately 7968 people killed)
% due to firearms - 65.2 (approximately 10128 people killed)
Remember:
Guns don't kill people
People kill people
Guns just make it easier
