I have two accounts - one through work and a Yahoo account. I rarely
get the types of spam you discuss to the work account and perhaps, they
have some sort of filter already in place or I am just lucky. One of
the things I do is set my preferences regarding cookies to the "Accept
only cookies that get sent back to the original server" in my Netscape
preferences (under the edit, preferences, advanced menus). Thus,
cookies don't get sent to all of the advertisers listed on various web sites.
On the Yahoo account, you can set up a bulk mail box. I haven't
received any junk mail since I did that as it just goes to that box
which Yahoo cleans out for me on a periodic basis.
Of course, none of this deals with the junk mail that comes disquised as
discussion on my various professional lists ;-)
Best wishes to everyone for the New Year and perhaps I'll run into some
of you at NITOP.
