I always tell my students that the most valuable lesson they are learning 
is "How to be intelligent consumers of statistical information."  The world 
is full of people who misuse statistics.  Some of them (advertisers, 
politicians, etc) do it on purpose in order to produce a desired 
result.  Others do it because they simply don't know better.

The ability to intelligently evaluate statistical information is valuable 
on a daily basis.
