IMHO, setting school-wide grading standards on a percentage of points 
possible makes absolutely no sense at all (from a psychometric 
perspective).  The percentage of points achieved by each student depends 
upon difficulty level of the test, type of test, preparation provided by 
the instructor, and a host of other factors--all of which have nothing 
to do with the quality of the students' performance.  You are better off 
with narrative definitions of each letter grade.
