Phyllis,

I taught Human Factors at the undergrad level for years, most recently
using the Sanders and McCormick text. But as this text headed out of
date, I became frustrated with the remaining choices. There now appears
to be too much emphasis on engineering and not enough on the human
factor. The Wickens, Gordon, & Liu text would be my current choice if I
were still teaching the course. Good luck in your decision.

My solution was to reposition the course from "Human factors &
environmental design" to "Environmental psychology & the wilderness
experience." It is now a much broader examination of
environment-and-behavior issues, including the humanistic literature on
ecopsychology and ecofeminism. Only a small portion of the original
human factors material remains. I would never have done this if better
undergrad-level HF texts had been available. But I have no regrets,
thanks to the engaging nature of the material I now cover.

A sample syllabus can be seen at http://www.humboldt.edu/~campbell/p405.htm
