Robin:
I don't think you need a pattern; most of the ones I rent fit HORRIBLY--all you 
need is lots and lots of really cheap black synthetic fabric and cheap 
velveteen--don't get the real velvet stuff--it's never been on the rental gowns 
I get--then again, you'll have to make those ill-fitting hoods--and how about 
them mortarboards! now there's a a piece of clothing that really fits my head 
well :-)
