I really agree with you on this one, Paul. As a student, my own graduations were important to me. As a faculty member, they are still important to me. I really like being able to celebrate graduation with my students. It's rewarding for me to see the joy on their faces when they finish the race that they have been running for the past four (or four, five, ...) years. It may sound corny, but it really is a celebration of hope, perseverance, and new beginnings. The one thing I don't like, though, is sitting outside under the hot Texas sun in my black regalia!
