I sympathize. I like some of the formalities - the actual granting of
awards. But I absolutely DETEST the speakers. All of 'em. IMHO, the field of
"professional communications" has left us with an absolute plague of
speakers who have polished delivery and no personality or content
whatsoever. I can think of few things less inspiring than an "inspirational
speaker", yet that seems to be what speakers aspire to.
But I still love the part where the individual students walk across the
stage and get their diplomas.
