I agree about the commencement speakers. The alltime record was set by our beloved president (of the college) who really is a nice guy. He has a Latino last name and read a long address that had obviously been translated for him by someone in the Spanish Department. His pronunciation was so hideous that several of us sitting together got the giggles and we couldn't stop. A year or so after this experience he spent six weeks at a language school in Mexico. We had this discussion a while back, but I would like to reiterate my support for speakers who acutally have a point of view. Click and Clack, the tappet brothers from NPR, Geroge Carlin, Garrison Keillor, Molly Ivins, Kurt Vonnegut, Dave Barry all come to mind. With a limited budget, there are probably local people who would available. IMHO, the speaker should be iconoclastic, flip and witty, but at the same time have a serious theme.
