I agree with Bob.  My mentors required their students to perform four-way ANOVAs
with repeated measures by hand.  Our office area was frequently visited by
students from other areas that would bring computer printouts from their
disseration research for interpretation.  I always thought that the person who
collected the data would be in the best position to interpret it!

Of course, there are limits.  I still can't invert a matrix by hand, even though
the concept is clear to me.
