Take a look at the Honda CR-V. Ours gets at least as good of
mileage as most small cars (about 28 mpg) and has all the features you
could want in a light weight suv (we also have an older heavy duty
Blazer that we use for towing or large, heavy, loads when
needed)--including 4-wheel drive, all the standard safety features
Honda's famous for, etc. We've found it a dependable, easy-to-drive,
vehicle with the kind of ability you need when you live in an area with
fairly heavy snow. Our last car was a Chevy Cavalier and not only was it
much less "full featured" but it didn't even get as good of gas mileage.
